Messinia is a large Greek region or prefecture which contains many attractive cities and spots, such as, per example, Kalamata, Kiparissia, Filiatra, and Finikounda among many others. The prefecture of Messinia is part of the Peloponnese, and is a place which not only offers an important amount of destinations but also a variety of different activities and attractions.
Kalamata is the capital of the prefecture of Messinia. This city offers a wide variety of interesting things to meet, such as per example its traditional dance known as the Kalamatianos Dance; its traditional art expression forms such as theaters and concerts; its local food based on a variety of seafood dishes among others; and its unique night life, among many others.
Another interesting city located within the prefecture of Messinia is Kiparissia. Kiparissia has a very interesting and antique fortress, which is one of the city's main attractions along with its sea side and coastlines. Tourists who visit the city's castle could not only meet an amazing construction, but also have a unique view on the sunset, a view which is often said to be one of the most beautiful of its kind in the entire world.
Pilos is other town tourists should try to visit while being in the prefecture of Messinia. Pilos is a charming and picturesque town of small dimensions located on a hill next to the coast of a bay. This town has cute houses often ornamented with beautiful flowers, ancient trees, and a very charming appearance in general. Besides the way it looks, tourists could also enjoy meeting the town's fortress, called Neokastro.
Tourists who visit Messinia could also meet another beautiful town called Methoni. Methoni is known as the town rich in wines, and this is due to the fact that wine is among the most characteristic products of this spot. The Castle of Methoni is one of the main places visitors should meet while being in this town. An amazing bridge leads to the castle's entrance, which offers a very impressive appearance since it has walls and gates of huge size and weight.
